This painting is part of a series of nine acrylic paintings on canvas aiming to pay tribute to the Muses of Greek mythology who presided over different artistic fields. The artist had fun assigning them a background and different colors to each one, according to their particularities.

This one is dedicated to Melpomene (“to celebrate with dance and song") who was initially the Muse of singing but later became the Muse of tragedy. To create beautiful lyrical phrases, it was traditional to call on Melpomene for inspiration. Opposite from Thalia, Muse Melpomene was the protector of tragedy, rhetoric speech and Melos. Melpomene was also the mother of the Sirens. The Sirens were beautiful half-woman, half-bird creatures, sometimes depicted as mermaids, who would sing enchantingly to sailors so that they would be lured to their death in the water below*. Back to tragedy.

The set of nine paintings exudes both strength and an incredible variety of colors but which tend to form a single entity not lacking in harmony.
